Default Groups
There are two default user groups in Hub: All Users and Registered Users. These groups are configured with the following default settings:
Name | Auto-join | Role |
---|---|---|
All Users | Enabled | None |
Registered Users | Enabled | Observer |
All user accounts are automatically added to the All Users group. Any role that is granted to this group becomes the default role for all users in Hub.
As an administrator, you can edit the roles and permissions assigned to this group but cannot change the group name, disable the Auto-join option, or delete the All Users group. You also have the option to determine whether members of this group are required to protect their accounts with two-factor authentication or not.
When a user account is created, it is automatically added to the Registered Users group. By default, this group is assigned the Observer role in the Global project.
The main difference between the Registered Users and the All Users group is the membership for the guest account. The guest account is excluded from membership in the Registered Users group.
As an administrator, you can edit the roles and permissions assigned to this group but cannot change the group name, disable the Auto-join option, or delete the All Users group. You also have the option to determine whether members of this group are required to protect their accounts with two-factor authentication or not.
note
Automatic Updates for Customized Registered Users GroupsPrior to the 2022.2 release, administrators had the option to modify memberships for the Registered Users group, disable the auto-join option, update any of its settings, and even delete the group completely.
As part of our ongoing effort to simplify user management, the Hub development team modified the properties of the default Registered Users group. This group was redefined to include all users except the guest account. Its settings are now read-only, and you can no longer remove users from the group.
When upgrading to version 2022.2 or later, Hub checks whether the Registered Users group excludes one or more user accounts or grants membership to the guest account. If so, the name for this group is automatically changed to Registered Users 2, or a higher number if that name was already taken. A new, unchangeable Registered Users group is also created.
Existing references to the default Registered Users group were switched to the new custom group, ensuring that the installation would continue to work as expected without interruption.
