AI Assistant in JetBrains IDEs

The AI Assistant plugin provides AI-powered features for software development available in all JetBrains IDEs. For setup and usage details, refer to the AI Assistant documentation: Getting started with AI Assistant.

Here is how you can work with AI Assistant:

• Use AI Chat to ask questions or iterate on a task.

• Generate code right in the editor.

• Use AI-powered code completion to get code suggestions for single lines, entire functions, and even blocks of code in real time.

• Use pre-written prompts as quick actions right from the editor or add your own to the Prompt Library for more relevant results.

• Explain commits and generate commit messages.

• Generate documentation.

• Convert files to another language.

• Generate tests.

• Generate terminal commands.

The AI Assistant plugin is not bundled and is not enabled in IntelliJ IDEA by default.

AI Assistant will not be active and will not have access to your code unless you install the plugin, acquire a JetBrains AI Service license and give your explicit consent to JetBrains AI Terms of Service and JetBrains AI Acceptable Use Policy while installing the plugin.
