Inspectopedia Help

Method parameter naming convention

Reports method parameters whose names are too short, too long, or do not follow the specified regular expression pattern.

Example: void fooBar(int X) should be reported if the inspection is enabled with the default settings in which a parameter name should start with a lowercase letter.

Locating this inspection

By ID

Can be used to locate inspection in e.g. Qodana configuration files, where you can quickly enable or disable it, or adjust its settings.

MethodParameterNamingConvention
Via Settings dialog

Path to the inspection settings via IntelliJ Platform IDE Settings dialog, when you need to adjust inspection settings directly from your IDE.

Settings or Preferences | Editor | Inspections | Java | Naming conventions

Configure the inspection:

Use the fields in the Options section to specify the minimum length, maximum length, and a regular expression expected for method parameter names. Specify 0 in order not to check the length of names.

Regular expressions should be specified in the standard java.util.regex format.
