dotTrace 2024.3 Help

dotTrace's Network Activity

dotTrace may use your network connection for several purposes.

Purpose

Description and configuration

Check for updates

dotTrace can detect available updates and suggest downloading new versions.

Send out anonymous usage statistics

dotTrace can collect and send out some information that helps us find bottlenecks and improve the quality of the product. All information is sent anonymously.

To enable or disable this activity, use the Send Usage Statistics checkbox in dotTrace Home | Help | License Information | Edit License | Options.

Download PDB and symbol files

To work with original sources when navigating code in the Call Tree view, dotTrace may need to download PDB and symbol files from a symbol server.

  • For the Timeline profiling type: When configuring a profiling session, clear the Download symbol files checkbox.

  • When analyzing a snapshot: in the dotTrace Viewer, use the menu View | Options to open the Options dialog. In Symbol server integration, select Don't use symbol server and clear the Download sources if possible checkbox.

Verify license information

dotTrace may use your network to check for duplicate licenses or to obtain a license from the license server. For more information, refer to Specify license information.

Normally, no additional modifications in the firewall configuration are needed. In case of any difficulties, adjust firewall settings so that dotTrace can access the network. You can also adjust the proxy settings for dotTrace's internet connection in the dotTrace Viewer | Options | Web Proxy Settings.
