Writerside as a plugin

Writerside is not only a standalone application for technical writers, but is also available as a plugin for JetBrains IDEs.

If you work only with documentation and don't need the overhead of an IDE for programming, then Writerside as a standalone application is your best choice. However, if you are already using a JetBrains IDE, then the Writerside plugin will provide a smoother experience for tasks related to writing documentation.

Standalone Writerside is a JetBrains IDE without most of the programming-specific features and functionality. There are no integrations with tools and assistance for technologies that are mostly useful to developers. Having only the features that are useful for you as a technical writer means better performance and less UI clutter.

If your documentation has code examples in Java, Kotlin, Python, or another programming language, standalone Writerside will not provide injections with coding assistance for it unless you install and configure the corresponding language plugin. Or you may consider using Writerside as a plugin for the IDE that has support for the language.
