Explore project hierarchy

ReSharper | Inspect | Show Project Hierarchy

To assign a shortcut, go to Tools | Options | Environment | Keyboard and find the ReSharper_ProjectHierarchyBrowse command.

This feature helps you analyze referenced and referencing projects and assemblies of a specific project in your solution.

tip

You can analyze project dependencies visually with a project dependency diagram.

tip

ReSharper also allows exploring the hierarchy of assembly references for any .NET assembly.

View project hierarchy

  1. Choose a project in the Solution Explorer.

  2. In the main menu, choose ReSharper | Inspect | Show Project Hierarchy or right-click the selected project and choose Show Project Hierarchy in the context menu.

  3. In a new tab of the Hierarchy window that appears, you can explore the hierarchy or project references:

  4. To switch the hierarchy between referenced projects and assemblies and projects that reference the selected project in the current solution, use the corresponding toolbar buttons (Referenced Projects Themed icon hierarchy screen gray/Referencing Projects Themed icon subtypes screen gray)

  5. You can further explore each project or assembly in the hierarchy:

    • Click Base on This Themed icon base screen gray to rebuild the hierarchy basing on the selected project or assembly.

    • Double-click any project reference to locate it in the Solution Explorer.

    • Double-click any assembly reference to explore the assembly in the Assembly Explorer window.
