JetBrains Rider 2023.1 Help

JetBrains Rider's network activity

JetBrains Rider may use your network connection for several purposes.

Purpose

Description and configuration

Look for updates

JetBrains Rider can detect available updates (including plugin updates) and suggest downloading new versions.

You can configure automatic update policy on the Appearance & Behavior | System Settings | Updates page of JetBrains Rider settings Ctrl+Alt+S.

Send out anonymous usage statistics

When using Early Access Program (EAP) versions, JetBrains Rider can collect and send out some information that helps us find bottlenecks and improve the quality of the product. All information is sent anonymously.

To enable or disable this activity, use the Send usage statistics when using EAP versions checkbox on the Appearance & Behavior | System Settings | Data Sharing page of JetBrains Rider settings Ctrl+Alt+S.

Download PDB and symbol files

In order to work with original sources when navigating compiled code JetBrains Rider may need to download PDB and symbol files from symbol server. You can disable that, in which case JetBrains Rider will have to decompile locally available assemblies.

To toggle the access to symbol servers, use the Allow downloading from remote locations checkbox on the Tools | External Symbols page of JetBrains Rider settings Ctrl+Alt+S.

Download NuGet packages

JetBrains Rider needs the internet connection to search metadata of NuGet packages when you browse and install NuGet packages.

Verify license information

JetBrains Rider may use your network to check for duplicate licenses or to obtain a license from the license server. For more information, see Register JetBrains Rider.

Normally, no additional modifications in the firewall configuration are needed. In case of any difficulties, adjust firewall settings so that JetBrains Rider can access the network. You can also adjust the proxy settings for JetBrains Rider's internet connection on the Appearance & Behavior | System Settings | HTTP Proxy page of JetBrains Rider settings Ctrl+Alt+S.
